  Feb 1, 2013
We are about a third of the way through this year's rally and the interest and support expressed by the Facebook community has been amazing. We had around one thousand fans a few days ago and now we are well on our way to three times as much. Thank you, your support is very much appreciated.

Since most of you are new to here let us give you a short introduction of the event. The Intercontinental Rally was started 2 years ago by a quad racer from the Czech Republic who had a dream of experiencing a race to Dakar as it was 20 years ago - without the media, unrealistic budgets and artificial comforts alien to the desert landscape. We are now in our third year, growing each year while maintaining the low profile, low impact character of the event. The entire organization is comprised of about 20 people, few in Europe, most on the ground in Africa. They are all dedicated volunteers, leaving their day jobs for three weeks to contribute to the success of the rally in all sorts of ways. We have medical staff, technical assistance folks, guys setting up and breaking down the camp every day, time keepers and referees, camera guy producing daily video, IT folks and few others. We all get by on very little sleep, quick bites to eat and a healthy dose of adrenalin. It is a very exhausting job but knowing that we did everything to provide the experience of a lifetime to those who are joining us on this journey to Dakar is priceless.

I hope that over the next 8 days you will stay with us to experience the triumphs and failures that are ahead of us. The effort put in by the racers, their support teams as well as the adventurers who just want to make the trip is simply amazing. They are spending long hours in some of the harshest environments relying on their skill and stamina. Sometimes they fail for various reasons, be it technical break downs, exhaustion or injury. But they give it their all with the goal of reaching Lac Rose. And the elation of getting there is impossible to describe.

Please bear with us as getting the information to you is not always easy. We are using military grade satellite uplink technology from extremely remote locations but even that is not completely reliable. So delays happen but we feel that the relative isolation is part of what this event is all about. So do not expect to see us on Eurosport any time soon.

If you have any question about this year's event or if you are thinking about joining us next year please talk to us after we get back from Africa in mid February. We look forward to hearing from you.

The moment of glory has arrived when all the pain and suffering is forgotten and the sense of accomplishment starts to settle in. After more than 5000 km and 13 days of full on racing the Rally has reached the finish line on the shores of Lac Rose, stone throw distance from Dakar and the westmost point of...

Stage 13 (St.Louis - Dakar)Feb 12, 2012
click to see the full size imageAlmost there (EN, FR, CZ)
As unreal as it feels at the moment we have reached our final destination! Lac Rose welcomed the Rally in all it's glory, glowing pink-purple in the afternoon sun. The penultimate stage featured sandy trails in the shadow of ancient baobab trees, through rural villages and bustling towns. The last 50 km was along a...

Stage 12 (St.Louis - St.Louis)Feb 11, 2012
click to see the full size imageSavannah (EN, CZ)
This stage provided an introduction to the navigational challenges of the Senegalese Savannah. Everyone exercised caution as we raced near many small villages with curious children and ignorant goats everywhere. The short liaison provided for a memorable outing, and as the moon rose over the bivouac the excitement of reaching...

click to see the full size imageNouakchott (EN, FR, CZ)
Another improvised stage to replace the two stages originally planned for the Atar region. The stage was relatively straightforward on very fast pistes with a massive dune at the finish. Due to the long liaison the car teams decided to forego the stage and the bikes raced on their own. There was one notable departure on...

Stage 9 (Nouadhibou - Nouakchott)Feb 8, 2012

After several days of high winds and blinding sandstorms forced us to forgo Atar and instead head to Nouakchott the special followed last year's course. To extend the range of the motorbikes to cover the 500km distance through some very remote coastal regions the rally team set up a refueling station around the...

Stage 8 (Daklha - Nouadhibou)Feb 6, 2012

A liaison stage to cross the Morocco-Mauritanian border. Thanks to advanced preparation by the organization, the border crossing went extremely smoothly, and everyone got across within an hour. The short drive across the mined no-man's land strip reminded everyone the importance of good way points as...

Stage 7 (Layoune - Daklha )Feb 6, 2012

Finally a stage with a shorter and easier off road section! The caravan proceeded on the blacktop south towards the city of Dakhla with a special section on flat, wind swept plains short distance from the bivouac. The easy terrain perhaps relaxed the concentration of one of the riders a little too much as...
